The weather forecast was not good but the Soltra crew was on the road to Comber on Saturday, Aug 11 for the 5:30 start time of the second race of the Soltra 2012 Yardman Racing Series.
This year, because of the rain, the usual clay track was not available for racing. But, the show must go on, so the track was set up on a grassy area to the south of our usual spot. The rain held off and racing was underway with 41 tractors signed in.
First out was the Junior Class with 4 racers showing their stuff. Racing for the crowd was Logan Bisson on his 13 tractor, Abigail Hough (10), Alyssa Hough on 65 and first time racer Keira Franceschini on her 01 machine. Great job kids!

The next day, the Soltra crew was down the road in Wallaceburg for the third race of the Soltra 2012 Yardman Racing Series. The grass track was a large oval which made for very fast racing that was underway at 2:00pm.
Again, it was a good turn out with 40 tractors registered.
The Junior Class wowed the crowd with participants Keira Franceschini (01), Alyssa Hough (65), Abigail Hough (10) and Logan Bisson (13). Great job!!

Again, two successful races for Soltra and its members.
That's all the news for now so we'll be seeing you at the races next time in Soltra's home town of Ingersoll.
Belle River - July 21, 2012
After a long winter and extended spring, the first race of the Soltra Yardman 2012 Racing Series was underway this past Saturday at Belle River . Although the later start of the race season allowed for some long neglected gardening, yard work and home repair or renovations, it was now time to get racing and thats exactly what 39 eager racers did at the annual SunFest.
With many new builds and some of last season's fixed, redone and fine tuned models, the race was about to begin. Racers took to the centre of the track for the playing of Oh Canada and then the familiar Are You Ready to Rumble and the show was on!
First up was our every popular Junior Class. This class is open to 5-9 year olds whos tractors have been designed to look just like Moms or Dads only on a smaller scale. The Junior Class was made up of Logan Bisson on his 13 tractor, Abby Hough (#10) and her older sister Alyssa on #65. Great race! The crowd loved it!
Up next was the Stock class which is a great get your feet wet competitive class for 10 year olds and up. Coming out on top of the field of 3 was Kayla Seguin on the 57 machine. Coming a close second was Sydney Meyers on #13 with third place going to first time racer Jachob Guindon on the 27 tractor.
The Super Stock class was next with 4 racers. This class is restricted to a maximum of 20 km/hr and drivers must be at least 12 years of age. The winner of this race was Kodie Hunt (55) with first year racer Chris Hruska (5) taking second. Coming in third was Jeff Donais on his 59 machine.
Our Modified class is governered by RPM and is not for the weak of heart. With a field of 12 racers registered the winner was Gary Anger on his 99 machine. Crossing the line next for second spot was Sydneys dad, Wade Meyers on his 40 machine and taking his second third place position for the day was Jeff Donais this time on his 79 tractor.
Last but certainly not least was the Super Modified class with 17 racers signed up. This class is for those of us who are totally nuts! After 2 heat races, the B Main consisted of 3 competitors. Taking first place in the B was Bill Koopman on his #11 machine. This allowed Bill the opportunity to move into the A Main Feature. After the checkered flag was thrown for the A Main, the victor was first year racer Shawn Guindon on his 45 machine. Way to go Shawn! Crossing the line for second was Art Krzywinski on #41. Taking the third spot was Mic Bechard on his 38 machine.
Congratulations to all winners and to all Soltra members for a successful kickoff to the 2012 Yardman Series. A special thank you goes to Shawn Guindon for his generous donation of trophies and another thank you to all members and nonmembers who helped out to help make our race the success it was.
Thats the racing news for now but well be seeing everyone down the road next Sunday at our next race in LaSalle.
LaSalle - July 29/12
Last Sunday found the Soltra crew at the west end of 401 Hwy in LaSalle. It was the annual picnic of Local 444 at the Vollmer Complex and this year's entertainment included a full blown race provided by the Southwestern Ontario Lawn Tractor Racing Association. Although there was short notice, the members rallied and those that were available, turned out to demonstrate what we are all about!
With 30 racers registered, we were underway at 1:00 p.m.
The Juniors entertained the crowd with 3 signed in. Wowing the crowd was Alyssa Hough on her 65 machine, Logan Bisson (13) and Abby Hough on #10. Once again, this class stole the show! Great job!
Since we only had one Stock modified racer register, Sydney Meyers ran the outside track in the Super Stock class and took first place in her class! Super Stock had four racers register. Taking his first feature checkered flag was Jachob Guidon on his 22 machine. Way to go Jachob! Coming second was Kodie Hunt (#55) and rounding out the top three was Lisa Hough on the 59 tractor.
The Modified class saw 12 tractors signed in. Taking first place, again, was Gary Anger on #99 with Wade Meyers on #40 taking the second spot. Crossing the line for third place was #79, Jeff Donais.
Finally, the Super Modified Class with 10 tractors registered to race. Coming in first spot was Art Kzrywinski and his 67 machine. Next across the line was Joe Artale on #59 for second place. Taking the third spot was Mic Bechard on the 38 tractor.
Once again, Shawn Guidon provided plagues for all winners. Thanks Shawn!!
Congratulations to all for a great show and we'll see everyone a little further east at Comber Fair on August 11 and Wallaceburg gWamboh on August 12.
